Physicians
Where would be
without physicians? Where would we be without the police and firemen? We need
all of them. Why? Because we don’t know, forgot, or never learned, how to
take care of ourselves. Prevention beats repair. Obeying the law beats having to
call the police. Being careful with matches and not smoking in bed saves a call
to the fire department. Unfortunately, physicians have changed their motivation
since the days of Hippocrates and Galen. Gone are the days of the house call.
Gone are the days of time taken to talk with a patient, learn about that
patient, and listen to that patient. Those days are gone because they take too
much time. And the physician can not charge for that. Because there is no
American Medical Association code for prevention, or just plain talk. Since time
is money and physicians must work down that large education debt that most are
saddled with, they must produce more billable time. Remember your lawyer?
Physicians are now in the repair business and have been for the past two hundred
years. Physicians repair what we break down.
